The Great Marshmallow Debate

I can imagine ya’all just couldn’t sleep last night waiting to hear which marshmallow won our Marshmallow Toasting Taste Off… no?

Ah well, I will cut the suspense anyhow 😉

This whole thing got started when I went to go pick up some run of the mill marshmallows at Walmart…

My childhood nostalgia kicked in and I went straight for the marshmallows of my youth that Kraft makes…

And low and behold I was shocked at the choices that sat on the shelf before me…

There were Chocomallows… Chocolate flavored of course.

And pillowy pink StrawberryMallows!

Caramel & Vanilla SmirlMallows…

And Toasted Coconut Marshmallows!

I was clearly a kid in a candy shop! I bought a bag of each (including the original)… leaving behind the smaller hot cocoa friendly flavors like chocolate mint … I see a marshmallow taste off sequel in my future… just sayin’

Anyhoo… After we got the campfire a blazing, Puddie, Monkey, Aunt Lou, Michael, Memaw, Papaw, Miss Add and I all got down to business — toasting and taste testing!

And the winners are…

Second Runner Up…

StrawberryMallow: Favorited by Miss Add, Second place by Mommy

First Runner Up…

Original: Favorited by Memaw and Mommy, Second Place by everyone else.

And the Marshmallow Taste Off Winner is…

Caramel & Vanilla SwirlMallow: Favorited by Aunt Lou, Uncle Michael, Puddie and Papaw and given second place by Memaw.

Honorable Mention goes to Toasted Coconut for being a great product for other purposes. Both Mommy and Memaw loved the coconut flavor and texture and thought they could be used creatively in the kitchen for a yummy twist on desserts.

Thanks again to Avant Garden Decor for giving us a lovely fire pit for our very important taste test findings 😉

WalMart also has HUGE marshmallows. They’re called Campfire marshmallows I think. They make the gooiest S’mores & are so big that you can roast them, pull off the outer layer and eat it, then toast the center again. Omigosh… Mmmmm. 🙂

I don’t buy the flavored ones–I just know that in THIS house, you have to buy JET-PUFFED only. No generics! Those are the only ones that taste good… or so says The Husband!

We roasted the monster mallows in two or three stages:  Just kept pulling off the roasted part and sticking the rest back into the fire.   I need to check out these other flavors.  Hopefully we can have a few more fires in our ring before harvest and cold weather settle in.

How fun! We just moved into a new house, and the previous owner left behind a fire pit! Can’t wait to put it to use.
