Prayers for Indy

A week ago Miss Add, Memaw and I headed to the Indiana State Fair with several other bloggers and their families courtesy of Indiana’s Family of Farmers.

Little did we know that in just a few days later tragedy would hit our beloved fair.

Truth be told, like so many others, my heart has been heavy ever since learning the news.

The families and friends of those lost and injured have been in my thoughts and prayers as I am sure they have been for many of you.

As the fair now begins to put one foot in front of the other, my thoughts are also with so many of my friends who have worked all year to make the fair possible. I know their hearts are heavy as well, and yet they are there making the fair the best it can be for those visiting this last week.

Our fair is truly a great fair and I am so grateful for the memories my family has the chance to make there every year like hundreds of thousands of my fellow Hoosiers.  I will continue to pray for healing and strength for all those involved. I look forward to a day where mention of the State Fair will once again bring familiar happier memories to mind–never forgetting the precious lesson those lost taught us, of just how important it is to make those memories while we can.

I was up there Thurs. evening & I was immediately struck by what a great State Fair we have. It’s absolutely heart-wrenching that such a tragic event occurred. My heart breaks every time I think about what the people there Sat. night went through & the heartaches of the loved ones of those lost & seriously injured. Watching the videos posted & looking at the pictures, it brings tears to my eyes to watch as people run from the stage area only to stop & turn to run back after the collapse. What a heroic bunch of people who were willing to run back into the chaos to help save lives! And how many lives must have been saved because of the efforts of ordinary people who proved to be extraordinary under pressure. May God bless, protect & give peace to all those who were involved…

We have been several times this year and were there Saturday afternoon/evening.  My brother and his girlfriend were at the concert on Saturday, but they left to find shelter because of the weather.  As they were leaving underneath the Grandstand, they heard the announcement about the weather.  So, thank the Lord, they weren’t in there and didn’t even see the collapse!  (Their seats were on the track, 11th row.)  Such devastation!  Tragedy!  We went to the Fair again this week, and it was so sad every time we walked by and saw the debris.  Praying for all those involved!
