Would you like a quick and easy way to whip up some dinner bread? This Fizzle Biscuit Recipe fits the ticket. (Plus it is super fun to tell the kids you are having Fizzle Biscuits for dinner 😉 ).

7UP Biscuits

Fizzle Biscuits
Fizzle Biscuits are also well known as 7-UP Biscuits due to their popular headliner ingredient

I found this great recipe in Gooseberry Patch’s new Hometown Christmas Cookbook and altered it just a wee-bit to lighten it up for our big dinner that night.

Fizzle Biscuits Secret Substitution

Oftentimes when I see a baking recipe that calls for sour cream I try to see if I can substitute  plain non-fat Greek yogurt as it tastes and bakes very similarly with fewer calories and less fat.

This recipe was a success! Everyone loved them and no one missed the calories or added fat. I mean the recipe still includes 1/4 cup of melted butter and it has been my experience that butter can more than make up for removing a little fat from other places in the flavor department ;).

Fizzle Biscuits

Truth be told, when I saw this recipe I knew I had to make it. Quick and easy recipes… especially when it comes to breads is right up my alley. There is just something about successfully making homemade breads for dinner that makes me feel like I have done something special. (That could be due to the number of bread fails I have had in the past…shh!)

But these Fizzle Biscuits were easy peasy and  only call for 4 ingredients. The result? A tender dinner biscuit with a delicious buttery bottom. Whew… my food blogger reputation at home is saved.

You think I am kidding but I have recently noticed a trend in my house…

Ya see, we often eat at different times…gasp… I know, I know.  We quite literally have opposite schedules about 95% of the time, so if the dinner table police really made Miss Add and I wait on Puddie for dinner, well, we wouldn’t eat.

Anyhoo… I have recently discovered our family’s eating situation has led to some “what’s for dinner?” and more importantly “is it any good?” reconnaissance going on between my sweet six year old and dear ol hubby.

They are teaming up on me I tell ya. The other day I found out they often conference before one or both of them eat to make sure whatever I am offering is any good!

I suppose that is what I get for making them my guinea pigs for all my recipe testing for this site and Recipes That Crock 😉 We have to make sure the recipes are yummy before sharing them here with you… and while it is a tough job, I do believe Miss Add and Puddie are old pros at it at this point.

However they caught me off guard when I found out their little pack to warn each other if Mommy has a dud on the table or if there is something really good and you are gonna want to ask for seconds.

You will be happy to hear that Fizzle Biscuits passed with flying colors. Both Miss Add and Puddie give them two thumbs up.

I made these this weekend for my son’s first communion brunch. We had 26 people for brunch and I made three batches. These along with sausage gravy were the hit of the day! Multiple people asked for the recipe and my family is asking to have them for breakfast tomorrow. Super easy to make. I used the greek yogurt version. The biscuits were buttery, fluffy and substantial all at the same time. I made them the night before and they reheated perfectly the next morning in the oven. I found that they needed to bake for roughly 15 minutes in my oven to get a really nice golden color.
